You can purchase the SF Visitor Passports that give you unlimited travel for 1, 3 or 7 days. If you are here for just a few days or a couple of weeks, the most practical and economical way of getting around San Francisco would be getting one of the 1, 3 or 7 day passes that allow unlimited travel on all the buses, streetcars and cable cars (but not BART) in the city. Here are my recommendations for most people visiting the city: Thank you for your support!īest transit options for short-term visitors to SF This helps me provide all the free information I post on this website. Note: I may earn a small commission if you make a purchase through some of the links on this page, at no extra cost to you. Read on!Ī big benefit of using public transportation is not having to drive in San Francisco traffic, and best of all, not having to hunt for parking (especially with the current epidemic of car break-ins.ugh!). But there are ways to make it easier and to save money while doing so. Not so good: the San Francisco public transportation system can seem very confusing and complicated. San Francisco is one of the better cities in the U.S. Golden Gate Transit between SF and Marin: bus schedules. The SF Ferries: Golden Gate ferries and SF Bay Ferries. The F-line trolleys: F-line streetcar schedules SF Muni bus and streetcar routes: Muni bus schedules Jump to the route maps and schedule information for the different transit options: The Covid schedule cutbacks are mostly gone now, though there are some lines not running at the moment.įace masks are no longer required on the buses, trains and ferries. They are gradually trying to merge the two, so at the moment they only partly overlap. Why is the transportation system in San Francisco so complicated? One reason is that the Clipper Card covers the whole Bay Area and the MuniMobile app just covers San Francisco. I've tried to create some order out of it and present the pros and cons of each. In google view I found many stores on it so thought it is not a kind of silent or dark area.įurther can you suggest from near my place which is the nearest option i can buy clipper cards and how much value per card should i get in it considering my 5 day stay. The huge variety of ticket options, transit passes and modes of transportation can be very overwhelming. As your opinion can you suggest how is the International Boulevard area near the station. There were reviews from various people who had stayed at this place and they had same opinion for the surround location. Moreover my bnb owner suggested that if any day i happen to get late then i should not take chances and should take uber from fruitvale station to our apartment. we don't explore new city/ areas at night and prefer to be back by 8 pm to our apartment. The bnb owner had suggested me that during day time this area is fine but coming back very late night say 11 pm is tricky and i should be careful about it. I picked International Boulevard, Oakland area and this place is just 5 min walk to Fruitvale Bart station. I know for a Senior Clipper you have to show proof of eligibility.īy the way, there is nothing at Balboa Park for tourists. I don't know if Children's Clippers are available as readily as regular ones or not. The child will need a child's Clipper so that it is only charged the child's fare. For example, you pay $9 for $20 in fare (that's my memory, you'll need to check the BART site for exact amounts.)īottom line I would recommend getting Clipper Cards and just loading cash on. (They do not have Muni Passes at a child's rate.) There is also a child's fare on BART which is a "high value" system. Kids fare are discounted already and I cannot see any circumstance where buying a Muni Pass for a child would be worthwhile. (The cable cars have a higher fare than any other Muni route.) However, the price of them has risen so much over the past few years that, unless you are using the cable cars a lot, it's not a good deal. Whether the adults need Muni Passes or not depends on what you'll be doing and how often you'll be using Muni. Or you can just load cash onto the card and that cash will be used for both BART and Muni fare. You are able to put a Muni Pass on a Clipper Card. There is a small savings for using Clipper on BART, and on Muni if you are paying the fare individually. They are completely separate from each other with different fare structures and collection methods. You will be using two different transit agencies: BART and Muni. I hope you have fully sussed out that location and are OK with it. I wouldn't recommend Fruitvale as a place to stay.
